Handy GreaseMonkey Scripts

While looking around for modifications I could make to FireFox, I ran across this Digg entry on “20 must-see Greasemonkey scripts“.

I didn’t agree with all of them being “must-see”, but I’ve definetly downloaded a few.

Here’s a short sample:

  • GoogleTagCloudMaker – generates a tag cloud similar to del.icio.us from your Google search entries and overlays it on the sponsored text ad links
  • Disable Text Ads – removes inline text ads you find in most common ad-intensive sites. Only blocks the top 3 major distributors, but that’s good enough for me.
  • Textarea Backup – our ticket system is web-based, so you’ve clicked on the wrong link only to find that the 30 minutes you spent typing your call details has been lost. Well, no more. This baby will auto-save entries in textareas after 10 keystrokes so when you reload the page or change a detail, which then reloads the page, the text will be restored.
  • LookItUp - highlight anyword and quickly look it up on wikipedia, a dictionary or whatever info database you like without leaving the page you’re on. The result is displayed directly on the webpage and can be instantly removed with a mouse click.
  • Apple Trailer Download – download the full movie trailers from apple.com.
  • Download Video – similar script to above, except it works on YouTube, Google Video, Myspace, Metacafe, Break.com, Putfile, Dailymotion and Sevenload.
  • YouTube Googler – modifies the layout of the YouTube website to look similar to Google Video. End result – comments are moved to the sidebar and the video frame has been expanded.
  • Digg – Add Mirror – creates links underneath each entry listed on the Digg website so you can quickly access DuggMirror/Coral Cache/Google Cache/Archive.org without having to browse through the comments looking for that mirror link…
